Teaching Prize 2009 - Award for commitment to teaching
In November 2009, five lecturers at the University of Oldenburg were honoured by the Vice President for Studies and Teaching, Prof. Dr Mathias Wickleder, with the "Teaching Prize" for the 2008/09 academic year.
The social scientists Prof Dr Gesa Lindemann and Dr Sigrid Graumann jointly received the award in the category "Best Module". In the category "Particularly successful example of the practical relevance of a course", Prof. Dr Jürgen Taeger and Dr Detlev Gabel were honoured for their module in the continuing education course in information law. The commitment of university lecturer and Dutch national Prof. Dr Esther Ruigendijk was honoured in the category "Particularly successful re-registering student credits". In addition to prize money of 500 euros, the honouree received earmarked personnel funds for teaching.

Wickleder emphasised at the award ceremony that the prize was intended to publicly recognise the commitment of lecturers and serve as an incentive to become more involved in teaching. "Outstanding teaching is of paramount importance for our university. It guarantees the high level of education of our graduates and is therefore also the driving force behind excellent research."
The University of Oldenburg has been honouring outstanding achievements by university lecturers in teaching and supervision since 1998. The award winners are nominated by the students. A jury consisting of university lecturers, students and external members decides on the award, which is sponsored by the Universitätsgesellschaft Oldenburg (UGO).

Jury statement: "Professionals as the target group of the module are well reached. There is a clear practical relevance through the involvement of lecturers from the field. Current legislative changes are taken into account during the course."

Course: "Introduction to Linguistics"
Jury statement: "Rules for re-registration, which the university lecturer regards as binding, are clearly formulated. Re-registering students is highly valued."
