Teaching Award 2011 - Research and teaching as a productive unit

"Research and teaching form a productive unit. Both areas complement each other and make for a good and attractive university," explained Prof. Dr Gunilla Budde, Vice President for Studies and Teaching, on the occasion of today's awarding of the "Teaching Prize" to Oldenburg university lecturers for the 2010/2011 academic year. They receive the award for outstanding achievements in teaching and student support. This year's prize in the category "Best subject module" goes to the biologists Prof. Dr Corinna Hößle, Prof. Dr Dirk Albach and Dr Klaus Bernhard von Hagen for their joint module "General biological school experiments and current topics in biology teaching". In the category "Best Professionalisation Module", Hans Gerhard Holtorf, Michael Golba and Andreas Günther received the award for the module "Rural Energy Supply" in the international Postgraduate Programme Renewable Energy. Katrin Ratz from the Institute of Educational Sciences receives the Teaching Award in the category "Particularly successful guidance for independent academic work and research" for her course "Counselling for and networking with senior citizens". The aim of the course was to provide procedural guidance in the planning and implementation of research work in the real practical field of counselling for senior citizens as part of a project study. The University of Oldenburg has been awarding the teaching prize since 1998 and nominations are made by students. A jury consisting of university lecturers, students and external members under the Chair of the Vice President for Studies and Teaching decides on the awarding of the prize. The awards, each endowed with 1,000 euros in prize money, are sponsored by the Oldenburg University Society (UGO).
