Teaching Prize 2016 - University of Oldenburg awards the Teaching Prize
One teacher and two historians honoured
On 1 December 2016, Prof. Dr Sabine Kyora, Vice President for Studies, Teaching and Equal Opportunities, presented three lecturers at the University of Oldenburg with their teaching award certificates for the 2015/16 academic year at a ceremony open to the public. In addition to awards in two previously defined categories, the jury also presented a prize based on the results of the course evaluation.
This year, the prize in the "Best Course" category went to Ms Julia Lüpkes from the Institute of Educational Sciences for her successful combination of theory and practice, which encouraged students to discover their own topics. In the "Research-based learning" category, the jury recognised the didactic concept of Lucas Haasis from the Institute of History. The lecturer linked "social media" with a historical epoch in an innovative way. This enabled the students themselves to transfer contemporary to historical structures.
In the 2015/16 academic year, students were once again invited to nominate what they considered to be particularly successful courses for the Teaching Prize. A jury selected this year's award winners from the nominations received. The jury is made up of lecturers, students and a representative of the Oldenburg University Society.
The students' vote counted in a different way for the "Special Course Evaluation Award": Lecturers were able to apply themselves with the results of their course evaluation. Prof Dr Malte Thießen from the Institute of History came out on top.
The winners each receive 1,000 euros in prize money for their teaching.
With the Teaching Prize, the University of Oldenburg would like to honour outstanding university teaching and initiate a debate on teaching and learning processes at the university. The University of Oldenburg has been honouring outstanding achievements by university lecturers since 1998. The "Teaching Prize 2015/16" is sponsored by the Oldenburg University Society (UGO).
