For her master's thesis entitled "Analyses of the everyday school life of a pupil with complex disabilities at a special school with a focus on intellectual development. An ethnographic study.", Macelina Eggers was awarded the Foundation Prize of the Caritas-Verein Altenoythe Foundation on 25 March 2026.
Macelina Eggers, who wrote her thesis under the supervision of Teresa Sansour and Maria Kollmer, used a reconstructive study to analyse the practices and attributions of meaning when using aids in relation to a pupil with a complex impairment. The work impressively shows that assistive technologies not only provide functional support, but are also social artefacts in a dynamic interrelationship between user, assistive technology and environment. The use of assistive technologies proves to be a highly individualised process that is shaped by various factors (relationship design, expectations, type of aid) and significantly influences the experience of participation.
As a specialist group, we warmly congratulate Macelina Eggers on this success.
