Changes to the subject Master's programme "Sport and Lifestyle"
With effect from the winter semester 2021/22, the subject Master's degree programme "Sport and Lifestyle" was developed into the subject Master's degree programme "Sport Science". It is therefore no longer possible to enrol on the previous subject Master's degree programme "Sport and Lifestyle".
The Master's degree programme "Sport and Lifestyle" is designed as a 120 CP degree programme and takes four semesters to complete. It comprises the compulsory modules spo810 to spo830 with a total of 42 CP. While spo810 provides a refresher and consolidation of anthropological foundations from a natural science and social science perspective, spo820 outlines and teaches the focus of this degree programme. In each of the spo810 and spo820 modules, students must take a course in the theory and practice of sports. Questions are posed to theory on the basis of movement and learning experiences made in sports practice; conversely, dealing with sports science theory enables and promotes reflection on these experiences. This means that theory and practice irritate and fertilise each other.
The explicit research orientation of the master's degree programme "Sport and Lifestyle" is reflected in spo830. It includes an examination of quantitative and qualitative methods of social research as well as scientific research methods; medical and training science diagnostic procedures are taught in the accompanying scientific courses in spo820 and spo850.
While sports science problems are examined from both a natural and social science perspective in the modules in the basic area, students in the specialisation phase can select either a module spo840 with a cultural and social science focus or a natural science module spo850. This compulsory elective module, which is worth 15 CP, is followed by an interdisciplinary module spo860 worth 6 CP.
The area of application comprises 3 modules (spo870, spo880 and spo890) with a total of 27 CP. In module spo870, students deepen the assessment skills they have acquired in their previous studies in sports, exercise and therapy programmes offered by various institutions, which they visit for this purpose. Students prepare these short excursions independently in terms of organisation and content. The module thus serves to deepen the aforementioned assessment skills and at the same time to develop key skills in "work organisation" and "communication" in the planning, organisation and documentation of the short excursions. Module spo880 includes a four-week work placement related to the professional field, which can be completed in sections, and module spo890 includes a project study corresponding to the respective specialisation focus; both the work placement and the project are accompanied by a "supervised research workshop". Here, students apply the theoretical, methodological and practical skills they have acquired during their studies to a sports-related research problem of their choice under supervision.
The professionalisation of 12 CP is equally weighted in the three modules of the application area.
In the final module (mam), the Master's thesis is completed in the 4th semester, accompanied by a colloquium.
All seminars are offered as theory-practice seminars, so that the interweaving of theoretical and practical knowledge is also guaranteed here.
