As part of the Bachelor’s degree programme, students must complete three technical investigations, including preparatory and follow-up work, in order to be admitted to the Master’s programme.

The objectives of the technical exploration are (see HÜTTNER (2005): Teaching Technology):

  • To investigate the relationship and impact between people and technology
  • To identify problems and shortcomings in the development and application of technology
  • To explore technology within a socio-ecological framework, in terms of its historical development and in the context of its demonstrable influences on people and nature
  • To investigate the relationship and impact between the economics and ecology of technology
  • To understand technical exploration as a subject-specific method within the subject of Technology

To receive a certificate for a technical investigation in the subject of Technology, participation in the preparatory and follow-up work, as well as in the conduct of the investigation itself, is compulsory.

Information on technical investigations can be obtained by sending an email to the student body. In addition, information on all current and upcoming field trips is provided via the student body’s mailing list. (If you are not on the mailing list, you can subscribe to it. To do so, enter ‘Fachschaft Technik’ in the search function on StudIP and enrol in the course).

Students whose first subject is Special Educational Needs can complete the three field trips at any point during their degree programme (Bachelor’s and Master’s).

A report must be submitted for each technical field trip. Further details on the format and content of the reports will be provided during the relevant preparatory sessions.

For students who commenced their Engineering degree in the winter semester 26/27, the field trips are no longer compulsory.
