OptiMOOS

Joint project OptiMOOS, sub-project Biodiversity & Measurements

OptiMOOS is a follow-up project to MOOSWEIT (peat moss cultivation for climate-friendly peatland development: cultivation and harvesting of cultivated peat mosses), in the context of which the trials in the Hankhauser Moor (LK Ammerland) will be continued. The trial areas established in MOOSGRÜN and MOOSWEIT (approx. 14 ha) are being investigated as part of OptiMOOS with the aim of optimising peat moss cultivation in terms of water management, climate balance, biodiversity and product development.

The Vegetation Science and Nature Conservation working group is tasked with monitoring the long-term succession of the dragonfly fauna on the peat moss production areas and developing management recommendations for the peat moss culture, including filter basins.

The aim is also to improve the biodiversity of the production areas and the filter basins by measuring greenhouse gases and nutrient flows throughout the year.
