Modules of the certificate programme

The certificate programme begins in winter semester 2025/26 with the compulsory online module „Grundlagen der Antisemitismuskritischen Bildung im Kontext Schule“ (6 CP/CP).
Building on this, two courses can then be freely selected from a pool of courses at participating universities and non-school institutions in the further module „Profilbildung in der Antisemitismuskritischen Bildung” (6 CP/CP). There is also the module „Praxisfelder in der Antisemitismuskritischen Bildung” (3 CP/CP), in which an independent project on the topic of anti-Semitism-critical education can be developed or an internship in an institution or with an educational organisation in the field of anti-Semitism prevention/intervention can be completed.

Online compulsory module „Grundlagen der Antisemitismuskritischen Bildung im Kontext Schule"

Brief profile

Scope:
6 CP/CP

Two courses: Lecture (asynchronous) + exercise (online, synchronous)

The module provides basic knowledge about anti-Semitism and anti-Semitism-critical education.
The online lecture (asynchronous, online) with 14 sessions each contains, among other things, an introduction to definitions and manifestations, perceptual divergences and defence strategies as well as pedagogical thematisation of anti-Semitism, insights into current Jewish life in Germany as well as an introduction to its representation in (school) media and insights into existing projects and institutions.
The corresponding exercise (synchronous, online) with 14 sessions each deepens the lecture content and addresses it in relation to the school context. The exercise will take place weekly from 14 April 2026, synchronously from 6-8 pm .

Module „Profilbildung in der Antisemitismuskritischen Bildung”

Brief profile

Scope:
6 CP/CP

Two freely selectable courses (in presence or hybrid)

In the module, two (teaching) courses can be freely selected from a pool of courses offered by participating universities and non-university institutions. The (teaching) events cover at least two sub-competences of a competence area. The thematic focus is freely selectable and can be set individually depending on the range of courses on offer.

Module „Praxisfelder der Antisemitismuskritischen Bildung”

Brief profile

Scope:
3 KP/CP

Independent project or internship in an institution/ organisation or educational institution

The module provides for either the development of an independent project on the topic of anti-Semitism-critical education or the completion of a 60-hour internship in an institution / organisation or educational institution in the field of anti-Semitism prevention / intervention. These can be distributed flexibly by arrangement with the internship location. The focus and the institution can be chosen freely (e.g. culture of remembrance, extracurricular educational institution, etc.). It is important that at least two sub-competences from the competence areas are covered as part of the module and that the project / internship focuses on a specific issue critical of anti-Semitism.

The topic of the project or the location of the internship must be agreed in advance with the coordination centre in Oldenburg
.

The following project examples are for guidance only and are fictitious examples.

Project examples

Project example 1: Contemporary children's and young adult literature (e.g. for the subjects German, English, French, etc.)

Project outline:

The student reads several current books for children and young people on the topic of Judaism and/or Jewish authors that are suitable for lower secondary level. The student develops a critical question or viewpoints from which the literature is analysed. The results are prepared for other student teachers in the form of a task card, blog or similar.

Possible (sub-)competences:

  • Students develop the skills to present Judaism in the classroom beyond stereotypical constructions or exclusively in a historicising dimension.
  • Students are familiar with the possibilities of (media) mediated encounters with diverse Judaism lived in Germany in the school context and can reflect on this didactically.
  • Students will be familiar with suitable teaching media and media on the plurality of Jewish life in Germany that can be used as teaching materials.
  • ...

Project example 2: Film project (e.g. for the subject of history)

Project outline:

The student selects a film on the topic of remembrance culture and develops a critical question or point of view from which the film is examined. The student develops a film screening as well as materials for a guided discussion for people from upper secondary level upwards with the help of the critical examination and questions about the film.

Possible (sub-)competences:

  • Students are aware of different ways of organising cultural memory practice in relation to the Shoah in the context of a pluralistic school. They reflect on and evaluate different cultural memory practices in relation to the Shoah for their learning groups and targeted school types.
  • Students reflect on cultural memory practices in relation to the present and reflect on the needs of pupils in the field of cultures of remembrance.
  • Students know about specific reactions to the thematisation of anti-Semitism in the sense of defence strategies/distancing patterns, for example among themselves, pupils and colleagues. They can name and recognise these defence strategies/distancing patterns. They have a repertoire of actions and methodological competences in pedagogical contexts.
  • ...

Project example 3: Jewish museums as places critical of anti-Semitism (e.g. for the subject of history or art)

Project outline:

The student visits one or more Jewish museums with a specific question, e.g. how these can be used as extracurricular learning centres for educational work critical of anti-Semitism in schools. The student also reflects on possible limitations and prepares the results in the form of a blog.

Possible (sub-)competences:

  • Students develop the skills to present Judaism in the classroom beyond stereotypical constructions or exclusively in a historicising dimension.
  • Students are familiar with the possibilities of (media) mediated encounters with diverse Judaism lived in Germany in the context of school and can reflect on this didactically.
  • Students reflect on biographical and social starting points in relation to anti-Semitism. In doing so, they take a multi-perspective view of different perspectives on social starting points that can also be found in classrooms. One focus for the ability to act in a way that is critical of anti-Semitism in schools is the examination of the divergence of perceptions between members of the majority society and Jewish people with regard to anti-Semitism, in that students deal with the concrete experiences of Jews in Germany.
