The 20th edition of the International Symposium on Scientific Computing, Computer Arithmetic, and Verified Numerical Computations (SCAN) was organized by Andreas Rauh and Marit Lahme (both affiliated with the Department of Computer Science of the Carl von Ossietzky Universität Oldenburg) and Ekaterina Auer (University of Applied Sciences Wismar) from the 22nd to 26th of September 2025.
Around 50 international participants from the Czech Republic, France, Germany, Hungary, Japan, Poland, Switzerland, and the United States visited Oldenburg to exchange the latest developments in the fields of reliable computing, software engineering, and uncertainty quantification with applications in such wide and varied areas as robotics, control, structural and civil engineering, and signal processing.
Besides classical presentations, SCAN 2025 has also focused on promoting the research of young researchers (Masters’ and PhD students) in the form of interactive poster sessions. Peer-reviewed papers based on the contributions presented at SCAN are planned to be published in the International Journal of Approximate Reasoning as well as in Acta Cybernetica. The scientific committee of SCAN has decided in its meeting that the next conference (SCAN 2027) will be held in Kitakyushu, Japan; SCAN 2029 is planned to be held in Krakow, Poland.
Die 20. Ausgabe des International Symposium on Scientific Computing, Computer Arithmetic, and Verified Numerical Computations (SCAN) wurde vom 22. bis 26. September 2025 von Andreas Rauh und Marit Lahme (beide vom Department für Informatik der Carl von Ossietzky Universität Oldenburg) sowie Ekaterina Auer (Hochschule Wismar) organisiert.
Rund 50 internationale Teilnehmende aus der Tschechischen Republik, Frankreich, Deutschland, Ungarn, Japan, Polen, der Schweiz und den Vereinigten Staaten reisten nach Oldenburg, um die neuesten Entwicklungen auf den Gebieten verlässlichen Rechnens, Softwaretechnik und Unsicherheitsquantifizierung zu diskutieren, mit Anwendungen in sehr unterschiedlichen Bereichen wie Robotik, Regelungstechnik, Bauingenieurwesen und Strukturmechanik sowie Signalverarbeitung.
Neben klassischen Vorträgen legte SCAN 2025 besonderen Wert auf die Förderung der Forschung junger Wissenschaftler*innen (Masteranden und Promovend*innen) in Form interaktiver Posterpräsentationen. Peer-reviewed Beiträge, die auf den während der SCAN präsentierten Vorträge SCAN basieren, sollen im International Journal of Approximate Reasoning sowie in Acta Cybernetica veröffentlicht werden. Auf seiner Sitzung hat das wissenschaftliche Komitee der SCAN beschlossen, die nächste Konferenz (SCAN 2027) nach Kitakyushu, Japan, zu vergeben. Zudem soll die SCAN 2029 in Krakau, Polen, stattfinden.
