Title: Circle actions on manifolds and the generic irreducibiity of Laplace eigenspaces
Abstract: If a torus acts isometrically on a manifold, then each eigenspace that does not consist of invariant eigenfunctions has dimension at least two.
In joint work with Sam Lin and Craig Sutton, we show that multiplicity two holds for the generic torus invariant metric. This is the expected analogue of the generic simplicity result of Karen Uhlenbeck.
