Effect of the fall prevention intervention program OTAGO on older persons with frailty and prefrailty – An analysis with conventional geriatric and technology based assessments

Background

The number of care dependent older people increased in the course of the demographic development. The loss of independence goes along with a loss of quality of life and high costs for the health system. An important condition that leads to care are fractures of previous falls. The goal of the OTAGO project is the sensor based recording of mobility and independence of older community dwelling persons with frailty and pre-frailty as a part of a fall prevention intervention program.

Funding and cooperation

The OTAGO project was carried out between 07/2014 and 06/2015 and is a cooperation project of the University Clinic for Geriatrics and the Division of Systems in Medical Engineering. The project was funded by the faculty intern funding scheme research pool.
