School VI of Medicine and Health Sciences comprises the fields of human medicine, medical physics and acoustics, neuroscience, psychology, and health services research. Together with the four regional hospitals, School VI forms the University Medicine Oldenburg. Furthermore, there is close cooperation with the Medical School of the University of Groningen.

The division for Physiology and Modeling of Auditory Perception at the Department of Medical Physics and Acoustics, University of Oldenburg, Germany, seeks as soon as possible a motivated

Research associate (m/f/d) in the field of psychoacoustics and auditory processing
(salary according to TV-L 13, 75%)

The position is limited for three years, and doctoral thesis work can be based on it.

The work to be assigned to the research associate is aligned with the long-term goal of the group, namely, to understand and describe normal and impaired auditory perception based on its physiology as well as on first principles. Specifically, on the fundamental front, a more detailed investigation of tone-in-noise detection is envisaged. In addition, the appointed researcher is expected to collaborate within the cluster of excellence “Hearing 4 all” (which is partly funding this position) to work towards a generalized auditory profile by integrating modern data science into audiologic research.

The division for Physiology and Modeling of Auditory Perception is part of the Department of Medical Physics and Acoustics and offers an international scientific environment as well as access to world-class research facilities. An academic university degree (master or equivalent) in hearing technology & audiology, physics, electrical or biomedical engineering, or a related discipline is required. Furthermore, applicants must have solid knowledge in at least two of the following domains:

  • auditory processing
  • psychoacoustics
  • scientific programming in Matlab or Python
  • signal processing and systems theory
  • research data management.

Furthermore, candidates must have a good command of spoken and written English and at least basic German language skills. A strong interest in interdisciplinary work and familiarity with scientific tools are expected.
