School VI of Medicine and Health Sciences comprises the fields of human medicine, medical physics and acoustics, neurosciences, psychology and health services research. Together with the four regional hospitals, School VI forms the University Medicine Oldenburg. Furthermore, there is close cooperation with the University Medicine of the University of Groningen.

In the organisation unit for Child and Adolescent psychiatry and psychology of the Department for Human Medicine there is a vacancy for the next possible date for a limited period of 3 years for a

Research Associate (m/f/d) for the Research Laboratory "Molecular Child Psychiatry"
(Salary according to TV-L E13, 100%)

The position is suitable for part-time work. There is the possibility of personal scientific qualification post-doctoral thesis.

The primary focus of our newly started neurobiological research group is the impact of early adversity and substance exposure on brain development and behavior. Our objectives include generating combinatorial maps of epigenetic, molecular, and cellular modifications associated with early adversity and psychiatric symptoms in children, as well as with their improvement following psychotherapy. We employ a comprehensive range of molecular biological methods. These include analyzing methylation patterns in specific target genes, conducting genome-wide methylation profiling, measuring gene expression levels using techniques such as real-time PCR, Western blot, and ELISA in addition to psychometric and neuropsychological evaluation.

Tasks include:

  • Establishment of a new research lab in both structural and conceptual way
  • Conception and implementation of research projects within the aforementioned research focus
  • Evaluation, interpretation, and presentation of experimental results (preparation of research findings, preparation of project reports, publication of results)
  • Supervision and guidance of assistants, students, as well as doctoral candidates within the projects
  • Leadership of various scientific projects, incorporating research and teaching obligations
  • Conducting teaching activities in the field of child psychiatry and molecular psychiatry

Recruitment requirements:

  • Completed academic degree (Master's or equivalent) in the field of biosciences or related disciplines
  • PhD in molecular psychiatry, molecular neurobiology, genetics, epigenetics or related High-quality scientific publications
  • Good knowledge of R, Python or SPSS
  • Fluency in English
  • High motivation, flexibility, reliability, and teamwork skills

Advantageous are:

  • Experience in grant writing
  • Experience with the analysis of high-throughput sequencing data or other large datasets
  • Experience in establishing and managing biobanks
  • German language skills
