Stellenausschreibung / Job advertisement

As part of the Science Space “Provenance and Collection Research Digital” (ProSaDi) in which researchers at universities and museums in Oldenburg, Hanover, Lüneburg, Göttingen and Bremerhaven cooperate, 10 research assistant positions will be advertised over the funding period of a total of 4 years. The project, which is funded by the State of Lower Saxony and the Volkswagen Foundation with around 3 million euros, is under the direction of the University of Oldenburg.

The University of Oldenburg, the Faculty IV Humanities and Social Sciences, the Institute of History/Dep. of Early Modern History, is seeking to fill a position from 1 November 2024 in the Science Space "Provenance and Collection Research Digital" as a

Project coordinator (m/f/d)
(pay grade 13 TV-L)

with 50% of regular working hours (currently 19,9 hours/week)

for a limited period of 4 years.

The Science Space combines provenance and collection research with epistemological and applied research in order, firstly, to develop IT and AI-supported methods that museums and other institutions can use to digitally process and visualise information about their collections; and, secondly, to research the production of knowledge about collection items in the societies of origin, in German museums, but also in the digital space, together with international partners. One of the central questions is how to deal with uncertain data and knowledge. The research area is made up of several coordinated sub-projects.

Tasks:

The tasks of the coordination of the Science Space include the scientific and organisational coordination of the research network in close cooperation with the network and sub-project leaders, the support and stimulation of the interaction of the sub-projects, and cross-sectional tasks as well as the monitoring of the overall project in accordance with the work and budget plans of the application. This includes

  • Use of modern workflow management tools such as Trello, Kanban or Jira for efficient planning, monitoring and optimisation of project processes to ensure that tasks are completed on time
  • Structuring of work packages into manageable subtasks, defining clear goals and milestones and ensuring that all team members fulfil their tasks effectively and efficiently.
  • Organisational and content-related support for the sub-projects, coordination and organisation of conferences, project meetings at various levels and workshops to support employees;
  • Network-specific public relations work including maintenance of the website and social media;
  • Close cooperation with the overall scientific project management and the sub-project management in the fulfilment of their tasks
  • Ensuring compliance with good scientific practice

Recruitment requirements are:

  • Completed scientific university degree (master, diploma (not of a University of Applied Sciences)
  • Willingness for transdisciplinary collaboration
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Ability to work independently
  • Good knowledge of written and spoken English
  • Experience in the design of websites
  • Good knowledge of Office software

Desirable are:

  • Completed academic studies (master, diploma (not of a University of Applied Sciences)) in the humanities, social sciences, cultural studies or museum studies, ideally with a focus on the history of European expansion and colonialism
  • Research and publication experience in a university context
  • Experience in project management, ideally in a university context
  • Experience in the organisation and coordination of transdisciplinary work processes and the networking of academic sub-projects
  • Experience in dealing with social media

You will work in a transdisciplinary team of scientists who combine museum, historical and cultural studies with artificial intelligence (AI), geoinformatics and three-dimensional measurement technology to develop digitally supported methods for recording and analysing collection items. The place of employment and the place of work is Oldenburg.
