School VI Medicine and Health Sciences comprises the fields of human medicine, medical physics and acoustics, neurosciences, psychology and health services research. Together with the four regional hospitals, School VI forms the University Medicine Oldenburg. Furthermore, there is close cooperation with the University Medicine of the University of Groningen.

In the University Clinic for Ophthalmology (Head Prof. Dr. Dr. Stefan Schrader), Laboratory for Experimental Ophthalmology, Department of Human Medicine of Faculty VI - Medicine and Health Sciences of the Carl von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg is available

starting as soon as possible for an initially limited period of 3 years. There is the possibility of personal scientific qualification [doctorate].

We offer:

An exciting project in the field of translational, regenerative medicine and stem cell research. The focus of the project is on investigating the influence of mesenchymal stem cells on the regenerative capacity of the lacrimal gland in vitro and in vivo. An essential part of the project is the work with murine, porcine and human mesenchymal stem cells from different tissue types. Methodologically, the focus is on cell culture-based methods (e.g. generation of organoids), histological and immunohistological methods, detection methods at RNA (qrtPCR) and protein level (Western blot, FACS), animal experiments and electron microscopic methods.

Requirements are:

Recruitment requirements are a completed scientific university degree (Diplom (Uni)/ Master) with a natural science orientation (biology, biomedicine, life science or comparable). Your research interests should lie in regenerative, translational medicine. A willingness to learn animal experimentation techniques is a prerequisite. You should be able to work in a team and be highly motivated and determined to establish your work. Good English language skills are expected, as well as a high level of teamwork and communication skills.

Desirable are:

In addition to a good knowledge of German, experience in animal experiments, including FELASA certificate (or comparable qualification), as well as experience in cell culture, molecular biology techniques and/or immunohistochemical analyses are desirable. Furthermore, experience in the planning, execution and analysis of scientific studies, as well as the preparation of scientific presentations and publications is an advantage. A high degree of independence, flexibility and a willingness to work in an interdisciplinary environment are also required.
