Hi Science! A Look Behind the Scenes

As a student, a lot of new things come your way. Studying at a German university will be easier for you if you already know basic scientific practices. These include basic scientific concepts as well as guidelines for good scientific practice and academic writing. The workshop offers a first insight into the requirements of the science business in Germany.

On three days we will focus on the following topics:

  • What does science actually mean? (science, research freedom, basic concepts of the philosophy of science)
  • scientific practices (guidelines of good scientific practices, reading scientific texts, embedding quotations and avoiding plagiarism)
  • introduction to academic writing (different types of texts, outlining and structuring a text, finding a topic and developing a research question)

The workshop is suitable for prospective and first semester students.
