Teacher Training Centre for Computing Science
Teacher Training Centre for Computing Science
The Teacher Training Centre focuses on the conceptual coordination, design and delivery of training programmes. Key objectives include providing foundational training for modern IT lessons in lower secondary education, as well as promoting high-quality teaching across a range of subject areas in schools. In particular, the activities and training content are geared towards the introduction of Computing Science as a compulsory subject.
Furthermore, coordination between schools and the university forms a significant part of the work, with the aim of fostering the integration of university-level education and practical teaching trials in schools, as well as supporting schools in establishing computer science lessons in terms of both content and resources (e.g. the loan of Lego Mindstorms robots). The stable network of Computing Science teachers in the Weser-Ems region, established with the help of the InTech project (Computing Science with technical aspects in school years 7–9), is being maintained and expanded, amongst other things, through the joint organisation of the InTech Cup.
Another key focus of the work is acting as a point of contact for teachers, for example to provide support with the introduction of Computing Science as a subject in schools, the organisation and delivery of professional development courses, and the loan of materials. The entire team handles enquiries from colleagues who, for instance, have taken part in training courses and have questions regarding practical implementation or the procurement of materials at their schools. Where necessary, enquiries are referred to other colleagues. In addition, schools and teachers are regularly informed about current opportunities in the region.
