Offers for beginners
Our offers listed here are guided tours and events organised especially for new guest students to provide orientation and an introduction to university life.
The events are part of the "Studium generale" programme and are free of charge for guest students. The information events are of course open to all interested parties, regardless of whether they are currently guest students or not.

When the Carl von Ossietzky University was founded in 1973, the BIS (Library and Information System) took over the holdings of the former University College of Education.
Today, the University Library holds around 1.4 million volumes in its open stacks. The collection focuses on the academic subjects represented at the university.
These tours of the University Library's user area will focus on its central importance for research and teaching, as well as the many ways in which it can be used,
such as research, borrowing, PC workstations, and the library's own library. Research, lending, PC workstations, printing and photocopying equipment will be explained and demonstrated.

For better organisation, please register by telephone or in writing to studium.generale@uol.de or by calling 0441/798-2275. However, you are also welcome to come and take part spontaneously.

To help you organise your seminars and lectures, the university offers a convenient tool in the form of the internet-based learning management system Stud.IP. If you want to actively participate in courses at the university as a guest student, you will need to familiarise yourself with Stud.IP and work with it. Stud.IP offers you a variety of ways to organise your own seminars and lectures and, above all, to download the teaching material provided.
You can also get in contact with other participants and teachers quickly and easily. In this introductory seminar, the following applications in particular will be practised:
- Register or log in to Stud.IP, set up/change password
- Search for and find courses and lecturers
- Finding rooms for the courses
- View, print and save seminar materials
- Find courses specifically for guest students
- Receive emails and send them to other participants or lecturers

In our short videos we explain all the main functions and possibilities of Stud.IP.
In lectures and seminars, the lecturer usually uploads the teaching material for students and guest students to the Stud.IP learning platform. In this way, students and guest students can download the material, save it on their PC at home, print it out and thus prepare or follow up on courses accordingly.
If you have applied for admission to the course you have requested and received a letter of acceptance, you are listed in the Stud.IP university system as a participant in the course and automatically receive all important information from the lecturers (e.g. time and room rescheduling).
In our short videos we explain all the essential functions and possibilities of Stud.IP. The following topics are covered, among others:
- Where do I get the access data?
- How do I log in?
- How do I find my courses?
- How do I download the learning material?
- Where can I find the BigBlueButton video conferencing system and how does it work?
- Where can I find the recorded lectures or teaching videos of my course and how can I watch them?
- Where can I view and download the literature or presentation slides provided for my courses?
- How do the communication applications work, e.g. Blubber or Forum?
You can access the explanatory videos here...
