Retirement at last! Preparing for the great freedom.
Take a holistic view of your life after work
You have spent decades in your academic appointment or with family work. Your life was characterised by tasks, academic appointments, deadlines and social interaction.
Even if the time was challenging, intense or stressful and you sometimes longed for more rest and free time - you also received structure, security and recognition in return. Now retirement is imminent and you may experience uncertainty, helplessness and self-doubt as well as anticipation.
Unlike transitions in the first phases of life, many people start this new phase of life unprepared. It is important to deal with the changes at an early stage. In this way, you can reduce worries, discover new opportunities and finally feel a real desire for freedom.
Organise your personal transition with experienced coaches: our joint workshop is your investment in a happy and satisfied new phase of life.
Participatory and interdisciplinary: the workshop concept
After a review of "Work in the course of time", we turn our attention to your personal future. We identify potential stressors and new opportunities for fulfilment in old age. We examine the following questions:
- What coping strategies are available to me in everyday life?
- What can I do for myself and my well-being in the future outside of my academic appointment?
- How can I prepare for getting older and the time after my working life?
Our workshop has a participative and interdisciplinary basic structure. As a participant, you contribute your personal experiences and wishes. Together, we will work out how to understand given living conditions not as static, but as changeable, even in old age.
Modular and well thought-out: our schedule
Preparing for the great freedom
This exciting weekend is all about reflecting on entering the new phase of life. What balance do I draw? Is anything still open in my academic appointment? What gains, but also losses, do I expect? How can I (re-)activate my potential, my knowledge and my resources in retirement? What projects do I want to plan?
Body, soul and spirit in harmony - health promotion, self-care and resilience
We deal with questions about personal health, well-being and strategies to promote health. What is currently stressing me out? What are my coping options? How can I take good care of my overall well-being and enjoyment of life after the end of my working life?

The final workshop provides space for a review of the previous events. Questions that may have arisen after the end of the event can be clarified. In addition, the participants should be given the opportunity to network with each other in order to remain in dialogue with each other after the event if desired.
Not over yet: Our other offers
In October and November 2026, we will round off our offer to you. You will receive lots of information on the topic:

The German Pension Insurance Oldenburg (DV) provides information on: "Old-age pensions - Who? When? How (much)?" Who can claim an old-age pension? When are the requirements met? Calculation of the gross/net pension. Will I be subject to pension deductions? What flexible transition models (e.g. partial retirement) are available to me?
In the second part, the Lower Saxony Seniors' and Care Support Centre in the city of Oldenburg introduces itself. The need for care can affect any of us. Parents or close relatives are no longer able to cope with everyday life independently. What should you do if you need help and care? The Senior Citizens and Care Support Centre sees itself as a guide and helps those seeking advice to find their way through the wide range of services available in the city of Oldenburg.

In the past, it was often said: "You can't teach an old dog new tricks." A proverb that was intended to convey the message: If you don't learn at a young age, you won't make up for it later. Today we know better. Even in old age, we are able to question the familiar, discover new things and continue to develop. Everyday life proves it time and again: you never stop learning!
Education accompanies us throughout our lives. It helps us to actively shape our own lives, make everyday life easier and provide new impetus. Learning strengthens independence, opens up new perspectives and promotes social contacts and social participation. Those who remain open and are prepared to engage with new topics and experiences, even in old age, can significantly improve their quality of life and promote their own health.
At this event, you can find out more about education in old age and what the university has to offer.

In times of change and the resulting changes in society, questions often arise: "How do I protect myself in everyday life? What can I do to recognise dangers?" The four-hour workshop consists of theoretical and practical parts in which the participants learn to actively utilise their awareness of danger and to move confidently and safely in public spaces. Legal issues relating to self-defence are covered as well as de-escalating communication and practical tips - with and without everyday tools - in the event of a physical attack.
Lecturer: Roland Wilke, police officer and emergency response trainer
