Early Music Ensemble

The "Ensemble Alte Musik" (conducted by Axel Weidenfeld) rehearses on Fridays from 12.00 noon in room A9 0-017, but usually (due to the better acoustics) in the corridor in front of it.
The group's programme focuses on European music from the Middle Ages to around 1700, with a focus on vocal music (e.g. medieval ballads, songs by John Dowland or madrigals from the Renaissance), which is rehearsed in a smaller ensemble. No special previous experience in "classical" singing is required - individual abilities and working speed are taken into account. As the parts are usually sung by soloists or only a few singers, the ensemble also offers training in the confident use of one's own voice.
If the instruments brought in by the participants make it possible, pieces for smaller instrumental ensembles can also be worked on. This does not always have to be strictly "historical": saxophones or electric guitars can also be ideal for dance music or canzonas. Performances usually take place towards the end of the summer term.
Instrumentation and repertoire are discussed at the first rehearsal of the semester. For the preparation of performance projects, participation over more than one semester is highly recommended (for which - as in all ensembles - no additional CP credit is possible).
