Take part in winter term 2025/26!
For over 15 years, the University of Oldenburg’s Pop & Jazz Choir has been delighting audiences with its varied, energetic performances and has, over time, built up a loyal following in Oldenburg.
During the winter semester, the choir is preparing for its major concert event, the long-standing ‘A Cappella Evening’*, which it also helps to organise. This two-day event has long been an integral part of campus and cultural life in Oldenburg. Guest ensembles enrich these two performances and add creative touches that also provide us with fresh musical inspiration.
In the final week of the summer semester, the choir gives a concert series entitled ‘Summer Sounds’. Our concerts are developed, amongst other things, in collaboration with the ‘A Cappella Arrangements’ seminar and, in the summer, occasionally with another, predominantly instrumental ensemble from our Institute.
During our rehearsals, we refine our ability to listen to one another and to integrate our own voices effectively into the choral sound. Vocal training, aural training and rhythm training form part of this process and support us as we learn new songs.

Repertoire & Style
The choir sings mainly a cappella.
During the winter semester, the choir performs exclusively a cappella; in selected summer semesters, it occasionally performs with a small jazz combo or piano accompaniment.
The carefully selected arrangements range from those by well-established to more contemporary international arrangers, and stylistically span pop, soul-funk and jazz – versatile, harmonically sophisticated and full of groove.
Who can take part?
The choir is predominantly made up of music students - however, exceptions are possible after consultation. As part of this course, music students in particular are given the opportunity to deepen and further develop their vocal, choral and practical music skills - for example in polyphony, harmonic listening and sight-reading.
We are particularly pleased to welcome singers who would like to remain part of the ensemble for several semesters.
Reliability and joint commitment in the rehearsals/concerts are important to us so that we can achieve our concert goal with musical enjoyment, joy and team spirit.
Ideally, new applicants should already have some choir experience and have mastered basic musical skills (intonation, independence in polyphony, rhythm, understanding "basic" musical text). These will be explored in a short introductory session ("audition") in a relaxed atmosphere.

Concert weekend:

All choir members take on organisational tasks (for and) on the concert days (e.g. set-up, admission, ticket sales, ticket control at the door, looking after guests, dismantling and much more).

Description
🎶 Pop- & Jazzchor am Institut für Musik – Mitmachen im WiSe 2025/26! 🎶
Im Wintersemester 2025/26 erarbeitet der Pop- & Jazzchor 3-6* neue Arrangements aus den Bereichen Pop, Soul-Funk bis Jazz – a cappella, groovig, vielseitig und voller Energie.
Neben den neuen Projekten wiederholen wir optional auch 1–2 Stücke aus dem letzten Semester.
Das Wintersemester-Highlight bilden wie immer unsere zwei großen Abschlusskonzerte:
✨ Der 29. A Cappella Abend – am 24. und 25. Januar 2026 in der Aula.
Ein besonderes Konzept in diesem Wintersemester:
An einigen Montagen teilen* wir uns in kleinere Ensembles (SSAA, TTBB oder SATB) auf, um zusätzlich besondere Songs* zu erarbeiten. So entstehen spannende klangliche Variationen und neue musikalische Erfahrungen.

Alle Chormitglieder übernehmen (für und) an den Konzerttagen organisatorische Aufgaben (z. B. Aufbau, Einlass, Kartenverkauf, Kartenkontrolle an Tür, Betreuung von Gästen, Abbau uvm.).

👥 Wer kann mitmachen?
Der Chor besteht überwiegend aus Musikstudierenden, doch auch Ausnahmen sind nach Rücksprache möglich. Besonders freuen wir uns über Sänger*innen, die mehrere Semester dabeibleiben möchten.
Voraussetzungen:
• Chorerfahrung / Singerfahrung
• Gute Intonation & Rhythmusgefühl
• Grundlegende Notenkenntnisse & Lesefähigkeit
• Verbindliche Teilnahme an Proben & Konzerten: Teamfähigkeit

✨ Wichtiger Hinweis zur Teilnahme:
• Regelmäßiger Probenbesuch ist obligatorisch (3 Fehltermine sind ok).
• Zuhause wird mit den bereitgestellten Materialien eigenständig geübt (ca. 2×15–20 Minuten pro Woche).
• Die Teilnahme an Extra-Proben und Konzerten ist verbindlich – hier entstehen die schönsten musikalischen Momente!
• Terminkollisionen bis 31.10.2025 bei Susanne Menzel anmelden und mit ihr besprechen, solch dringende Ausnahmen können vereinbart werden und stehen einer Teilnahme nicht unbedingt im Wege.
