Research

In terms of its own research, the Department of Social Pedagogy/Diversity Education operates on the one hand within the orientating frameworks developed by the School I - School of Educational and Social Sciences and the Institute of Educational Sciences.

This involves the Faculty's research focus on participation and education and the Institute's research focus on subject development and educational trajectories in social diversity and inequality, to which we feel very close. On the other hand, we try (to a certain extent also on a daily basis) to acquire research funding that can encompass all fields of action of social work and their addressees, whereby we always pay particular attention to a perspective that can be described as critical diversity.

Research projects in the field of difference ratios

The research projects of the Diversity-Aware Social Pedagogy specialist group deal with current and central topics in pedagogy and, in particular, social pedagogy/social work.

The broad spectrum of focal points at the end of projects deals with issues relevant to society as a whole, including migration, relations of difference, critical diversity, (global) social justice, gender relations, sexualised violence, racism, right-wing extremism and anti-Semitism.

The research projects are characterised by methodological diversity and a reflective attitude with regard to their own research objectives as well as the integration of intersectional perspectives.
In the conception and implementation of the research projects, the members of the research group are networked with other universities and institutions in Germany as well as in international co-operations. The projects also show a clear connection to the (overarching) research focus on Participation and Education of School I - School of Educational and Social Sciences and the research focus on Subject Development and Educational Trajectories in Social Diversity and Inequality of the Institute of Educational Sciences.

The current selection below provides an insight into the ongoing or recently completed projects (in alphabetical order):

Education in the perspective of critical diversity research

Theoretical approaches and empirical analyses of universities, especially in contexts of global migration

In the context of global migration, access to higher education is analysed. The intersection of 'race' and 'social class' with regard to migration and internationalisation is examined, oriented towards questions of global educational justice and human rights.
