Checklist for a personal page
These features characterise a good personal page
- The person's proper name including academic title is used as the page title.
- Settings in the page properties:
- The URL segment is set so that uol.de/vorname-nachname is used as the address. The "first-name-last-name" corresponds to the associated university e-mail address before the @ sign, with dots being replaced by minus signs.
- The breadcrumb title is the proper name without the academic title. The first name can be abbreviated if necessary.
- The navigation title remains empty and therefore corresponds to the page title.
- For the content type, "Page is person page" is clicked.
- Content data about the person (profile information) can be found in the main column of the page. This includes any photos/portraits as well as courses, CV, publications etc.!
- The page maystart with a right-aligned profile photo, accompanied by the job title and a short, keyword-based list of the fields of activity (specialisations). (Details can be given below under the heading "Research focus" or similar).
- Several content-related headings (e.g. CV / Research / Teaching events / Publications) are each inserted into the page as drop-down elements , which are then collapsed by default and can therefore be quickly viewed when the page is opened.
Tip: For further topic headings, it is best to use the "Categories" in Stud.IP and then embed these in the page via the Stud.IP plugin. - Subpages are only used for very extensive content (e.g. long publication lists). In the person page itself, there is first a selection, followed by a link to the complete subpage. The link to the subpage is labelled as a"more button" (style menu of the editor) and thus has a button look.
- If at all possible, the contact details are obtained from Stud.IP using the corresponding TYPO3 plugin.
- If contact details are entered manually, they are labelled correctly using a symbol from the style menu (e.g. as email, address, etc.).
- Technical and organisational contact details can be found in the "Contact" section at the top left of the page. "Contact" is entered as the heading. The display and positioning of the contact details then also works well on smartphones and the contact details are automatically inherited by any subpages.
Things that should be avoided at all costs
- Do not place any courses, CVs, publication lists, etc. in the left-hand column!

- Information on the topic of contact details can be found on the Contact details page
- Formatting content elements as expandable elements
☝ Note on the "Priorities" field
The "Specialisations" field is displayed at the top together with the profile photo and is used to briefly list the main areas of activity.
Recommended formatting:
Job title, e.g. "Research assistant", formatted as heading 4
- The main areas of activity are formatted as a bulleted list (the "list" is offered in the toolbar of the editor in Stud.IP).
- The focal points only serve as a rough orientation and should be kept short
- Longer texts on specific focus topics can be presented further down as drop-down elements (in Stud.IP: categories).
- The list of specialisations should be about the same height as the adjacent profile photo. This results in a harmonious overall picture.
Research
- Specific research projects could be mentioned here. If the content is very extensive, it is advisable to provide only a brief overview here and then refer to subordinate pages where the research is presented in detail.
- The person's homepage thus offers a good first insight, and you can then click to go into more depth if required.
Teaching
To display the current courses, it is best to use the Stud.IP module, which offers a person's courses in addition to their contact details.
Publications
- This is a list of publications. If the list is very large, it can also be a selection so that not too much content appears here.
- The list of publications can be a normal bulleted list. For better readability, the style "Expanded list" should be assigned in the "Style" menu of the editor in order to have some space between the individual entries.
- A complete list can then be referred to using a button at the end of the list. To do this, create a new paragraph (outside the list), link the text "complete publication list" to the subpage containing the complete list, for example, and give this link the style "inline button" via the "Style" menu of the editor:
Creation and structure of personal pages
- Create a new person page:
The easiest way to do this is to use the sample page:
In the page tree from the system folder Data pool→Sample pages, copy the "Person page" into your pages, this is a good starting point. Then follow the instructions in the green box. This completes points 2 and 3 in this list! - Place"technical" contact data in the "Contact (top left)" area and assign the heading "Contact" or "Contact", preferably using the Stud.IP module
- Placepersonal profile data (specialisation, portrait picture, courses, CV, publications, research interests, categories (= other topics)) at the top in the "normal" area, preferably using the Stud.IP module.
- If possible, also maintaincontent categories in Stud.IP as "categories" and embed them via the personal profile data (see point 3.)! Otherwise, create them manually as drop-down elements in TYPO3. This also makes the page easy to use on a smartphone.
Tip: For very extensive content (e.g. publications), the drop-down element can only contain a compact list of selected publications; a link to a subordinate publications page with the complete list is then added at the end of this list.
