Visa & Enrollment
Congratulations on your admission to the B.Sc. Physics programme! Before you can start your studies in Oldenburg, you'll need to take care of two things: your student visa (if applicable) and your enrollment at the university. Here's what you need to know.
Documents typically required for your student visa
If you are a citizen of a country that requires a visa for study purposes in Germany, you will generally need:
- Your admission letter from the University of Oldenburg (Zulassung)
- A valid passport (valid for at least 3 more months)
- Proof of financial resources — one of the following:
- A blocked account ("Sperrkonto") with currently EUR 11,904 per year (EUR 992/month)
- A declaration of commitment ("Verpflichtungserklärung") from a sponsor
- A scholarship certificate
Visa applications are submitted through the German embassy or consulate in your home country (via the Federal Foreign Office's Consular Services Portal), not through the University. Please apply as early as possible — visa processing can take several months, and the International Office is unfortunately unable to speed up or influence embassy decisions.
Enrolling at the University
Once you have your visa (or if you don't need one), you must enroll in person at the Registrar's Office before the enrollment deadline:
- Winter term: October 1
Bring the specific documents listed in your admission letter — these may vary depending on your individual case.
What if your visa is delayed?
We understand that visa processing times are outside your control and can sometimes take longer than expected. If your visa has not been issued in time for the start of the semester, please contact us as soon as possible — we can arrange for you to join lectures and seminars online until you are able to arrive in Oldenburg in person. This way, you won't fall behind while you wait for your documents.
