Support for you
You’re never on your own here
SUPPORT FOR YOU
From your first day in Oldenburg to your final exam, real support is built into the university – not just for physics, but for settling into life here. Below you find who does what, and how to reach them.
International Office
ADMIN & ARRIVAL
What it is
The university’s dedicated office for everything about being an international student here.
How it supports you
Before you arrive, they guide you through visa requirements and paperwork. Once you’re in Oldenburg, they help with enrolment, residence permits and health insurance registration, and run a structured Welcome Week so your first days aren’t spent figuring it all out alone.

AStA – Student Union
STUDENT VOICE
What it is
The independent, student-run union that represents every student at the university.
How it supports you
The AStA advice team helps with social and financial questions such as BAföG, housing or money worries, and points you to legal aid if you run into a dispute. They organise much of the social calendar on campus and speak directly to university leadership on students’ behalf – think of them as your advocate, not an administrative office.

Student Buddy
FIRST WEEKS
What it is
A peer-matching programme that pairs you with a current student before you even arrive.
How it supports you
Your buddy answers the everyday questions that are hard to google – where to get a bike fixed, how to register your address, which Mensa line moves fastest. Just as importantly, they’re a friendly face during your first weeks, while you’re still finding your footing.

Fachstudienberatung Physics
ACADEMIC
What it is
Subject-specific academic advising run by the Physics department itself.
How it supports you
Not generic university advising – this is faculty who know the degree in detail. They help you plan your course load each semester, choose optional modules, time a study-abroad semester, and later pick a Master’s specialisation that actually fits your interests.
