Computing Science interdisciplinary

Studying other subjects alongside Computing Science

As Computing Science can be used in almost any subject, we are happy for students to study modules from other subjects as part of the professionalisation area. However, the selection of modules from other Bachelor's degree programmes as exchange modules in the area of specialisation is only possible if such a subject is not subject to any admission or access restrictions and the lecturers agree to participation.

Students who wish to officially study Computing Science with a second subject must first (or in addition to the Bachelor's degree in Computing Science) enrol in the two-subject Bachelor's degree in Computing Science and the chosen second subject. All subjects at the University of Oldenburg are possible second subjects (application subjects). It should also be noted that the two-subject Bachelor 's degree programme in Computing Science is geared towards training as a teacher, i.e. it contains compulsory modules that prepare students for a career in education.

When changing to the Bachelor of Computing Science, successfully studied modules from the second subject can generally be credited (in the area of specialisation or, if applicable, in the area of specialisation).

Study organisation in the two-subject Bachelor's degree

Due to the large number of permitted second subjects, it is not possible to achieve overlap-free timetables for all combinations in the two-subject Bachelor of Computing Science. In order to ensure that the degree programme runs smoothly, the curriculum must be individually adapted. Studying a second subject therefore requires a high degree of flexibility and self-responsible organisation.

Music professionalisation programme

Special case

For the subject of Music, which is very interesting for Computing Science students and has restricted access, a professionalisation programme has been established through a corresponding agreement between the subjects, which allows special modules in Music to be included in the area of specialisation without the need for an entrance examination and enrolment in the subject of Music.
