Dual-subject Bachelor of Computing Science: Music as a second subject
An official second degree programme in Music as an application subject to Computing Science requires a successful application for the dual-subject Bachelor's degree in Music and Computing Science. To be admitted to the music degree programme, you must take the entrance examination in music and pass it well enough to be awarded a place in the allocation procedure.
You can find further information on the second subject Music on the official degree programme pages of the University or on the degree programme pages of the Institute of Music.
Bachelor of Computing Science: Music for students of Computing Science
Professionalisation programme as an alternative to a second subject
Computing Science students with an interest in music are often more interested in computer applications in music than in instrumental or vocal lessons, so that they often do not have the necessary qualifications for the entrance examination.
For these students, there is a professionalisation programme "Music for Computing Science Students" in the area of specialisation, which enables students in the Bachelor of Computing Science to acquire a specialisation in music even without an entrance examination.
Instrumental or vocal practice modules cannot be taken by students in the Bachelor of Computing Science, as passing the entrance examination is essential for such modules.
The programme can be studied with 12 CP (modules PB242 and PB243) or 18 CP (modules PB242, PB243 and PB244):
-
PB 242 Music Theory for Computing Science Students (6 CP)
- Two consecutive exercises from the Music Theory study area
- Assessment based on final examination in Music Theory II (90 min.)
-
PB 243 Media Music Practice for Students of Computing Science (6 CP)
- Usually an introductory course from basic module 2 Music Theory and a production course
- Evaluation of the production with written justification, performance and oral explanation
-
PB 244 Musicology for Computing Science students (6 CP)
- Introduction to musicology
- Specialisation seminar in musicology of your choice from the module's offerings
- Assessment based on a module examination in the specialisation seminar
In order for the modules to be recognised, students must prove that they have completed the associated individual courses by means of so-called cumulative course result sheets certificates.
Successful attendance of professionalisation programmes is certified on the Bachelor's degree certificate.
