School - University dialogue group (GSU)
Purpose of the HSE
The School-University Discussion Group (GSU), constituted as an informal body in June 1972, serves the goal of cross-phase exchange and cross-phase co-operation between the institutions represented from all three teacher training phases in our training region. The cross-phase link is a long-standing quality element in teacher training in Oldenburg that has been anchored in the format of the GSU.
The HSE brings representatives of all three teacher training phases into a continuous and structured exchange, it secures and strengthens the cooperative relationships between the institutions and their representatives in order to focus on cross-interface challenges and discuss options for action.
The HSE has an exclusively exchange and cooperation character. The impulses gained from the exchange can be introduced by the members into their respective institutions.
Subject areas in the HSE
The work of the GSU focuses on the diversity and complexity of the interrelationships between studies and preparatory service as well as further education. The HSE constantly endeavours to identify and advise on challenges in teacher training and options for action with regard to the diversity and complexity of the interrelationships between studies and training (vocational preparation), with regard to further education and training (in-service training) and school development.
The content dealt with in the HSE relates to topics that are relevant to several or all institutions and stakeholders involved in teacher training and continuing professional development:
- Teacher training-related and interdisciplinary relevance
- Relevance across phases and school types
- Relevance for teacher training that links theory and practice
- Relevance in relation to educational policy and social developments

Composition and coordination of the HSE
The GSU is made up of representatives from schools, study programmes, universities and teacher training. The Regional State Offices for Schools and Education (RLSB; formerly school authorities [or NLSchB]) have also been involved for many years.
The representatives from schools and study seminars represent the breadth of school types as well as the urban/rural perspective of the assignment/training region. On the part of the university, representatives from teacher training (subject didactics, educational science), the student representatives and the Didactic Centre (DiZ) are involved. The regional teacher training structures (OFZ, RPZ) are also represented.
For over 40 years, the GSU meetings were chaired in tandem by the university and the NLSchB (RLSB). The state education authority (now: RLSB) withdrew from the management and participation in 2018, which is why the DiZ Vice Director for Vocational Education and Training has been in charge in recent years.
For many years, the work of the HSE was supported by the Centre for Professional Pedagogical Practice (ZpB). After its integration into the Didactic Centre (diz), which was founded in 2003, these tasks were continued by the office, as was the case when the Centre for Teacher Education - Didactic Centre (DiZ) was founded in 2019.
