Pregnancy during studies and internship
The University of Oldenburg would like to offer students who are pregnant or breastfeeding the opportunity to continue their studies (including internships) without jeopardising their health or that of their child.
Information on maternity protection and the procedure can be found here. Among other things, students can find out how to report their pregnancy and/or breastfeeding.
Students can find further counselling services at the Family Service.
In the case of an upcoming internship, it would be desirable for the students concerned to make contact with the responsible person in the Didactic Centre as soon as possible so that the pregnancy/breastfeeding period can be taken into account in the planning.
Helpful and supplementary information in connection with practical school modules can also be found on the website of the Lower Saxony State Education Authority.

Please send the completed proposal to the DiZ (Andrea Raschke) for further processing.
Once you have received approval for the long-term business trip application, you will find the settlement sheet for travel expenses for school visits here. This document applies to visits to all school internships, except for GHR300!
FAQ on behaviour during the internship
Obligations of the students
a) Students must comply with the regulations in force at the school and follow the instructions of the school management and the mentors responsible for their training.
b) Students are obliged to maintain confidentiality if the facts that become known during their training require confidential treatment. In particular, such facts must be treated confidentially if their disclosure could violate the legitimate interests of one or more students, teachers or other persons.
c) In the event of illness or other absences during the school internship, students must inform the school immediately of the reasons and the expected duration of the absence.
Compensation for days of absence
In the event of absences for good cause, any internship days not completed should be made up for in consultation with the school management within the internship period or, if necessary, afterwards (e.g. by increasing the number of hours within the scheduled school days) or other activities (e.g. all-day activities, support area, extracurricular activities), provided that the days missed do not exceed 10 internship days.
In the event of illness, the school's Office and the mentor will be informed immediately. From the third day of absence, a certificate of incapacity to work must be submitted to the school. The missed days will also be made up here.
The fulfilment of the requirements for the school internships must be guaranteed. In case of doubt, consultation must be made with the examinations at the university.
When should the school internship be repeated?
The school internship must be repeated if the student
- withdraws from the assigned internship after the assignment procedure has been completed,
- does not start the internship or terminates it prematurely after starting it,
- has not completed the internship in accordance with the requirements
- is absent for more than 10 internship days for good cause,
- is absent during the internship without proof of good cause,
- was excluded from the school internship in accordance with point 6.
Misbehaviour
Students may be excluded from participation in the school internship by the school management for disciplinary reasons if their culpable, unlawful or unacceptable behaviour has a lasting negative impact on the teaching and educational mission of the school. The decision on exclusion is the responsibility of the school management in close consultation with the responsible teachers and module coordinators at the university and the Didactic Centre.
School trip, excursion, further training etc.
Further training, events and school festivals are also part of school life, and students can also be involved in these. Excursions may be accompanied, but the teaching aspect of the internship would be too small for an entire class trip.
Students may attend meetings and conferences organised at the school in order to gain a comprehensive view of the work at the school.
Substitute teaching, dual function
According to § 62 NSchG, the duty of supervision cannot be transferred to students. Thus, according to the law, students may not be assigned to substitute teaching on their own responsibility.
If the student already has a contract at the internship school as a substitute teacher or pedagogical assistant, the framework conditions for the professional internships in the teacher training programme (see Niedersächsische MaVO-Lehr and the Niedersächsische Schulgesetz) must be observed. This means that
- practical school training as part of the degree programme (compulsory internship) must be clearly separated from the employment relationship in terms of time, tasks and obligations. The time/lesson hours for the school internship must be completed in addition to the employment relationship.
- no substitute teaching and no supervisory duties (e.g. break or bus supervisors) may be undertaken during the times/lessons scheduled for the school internship.
- the lessons planned for the school internship must be accompanied or reflected on by mentors.
Insurance cover
During the internship, the students are integrated into the company's (school's) operations and are insured against accidents as employees in accordance with Section 2 (1) No. 1 SGB VII. It is irrelevant whether the internship is mandatory in the study or examination regulations or is voluntary. The employer's liability insurance association or accident insurance fund of which the internship company is a member is responsible. Regulations on the third subject
Students taking a third subject do not have to complete an additional internship. Further regulations and the examination regulations can be found here .

Surveys and surveys at schools
Surveys and surveys in schools require prior authorisation. This authorisation requirement applies to surveys and surveys in research projects as well as to all student coursework and examinations that you have to complete as part of your final theses (Bachelor's and Master's theses) and other modules (including practical school modules such as the project band and the research and development internship).
Therefore, if you are conducting surveys and surveys in schools in any context, we strongly recommend that you familiarise yourself with the information provided by the Didactic Centre (DiZ) office and use the associated application forms.
You can download these at:
uol.de/diz/studium-und-lehre/umfragen-und-erhebungen-in-schulen
If you have any questions, please contact the responsible teacher directly.
Contributing teachers (MLers)
As part of the teacher training programme at the University of Oldenburg, so-called "cooperating teachers" from schools support university teaching by establishing a practical connection to schools, e.g.
- in the preparation of school internships or
- in the planning, application and reflection of teaching-relevant methods, media, experiments and much more.
Further information can be found here.
Quality management
For the regular review of degree programmes within the framework of faculty quality management, quality management processes have been established both at the different structural levels of a degree programme and at the different levels of responsibility at the university, which are interlinked in the sense of a general university quality cycle (see the University of Oldenburg's quality management system for teaching and learning; orange QM cycle).
The UOL has developed an additional cross-faculty quality cycle for the teaching degree programmes specifically for quality assurance of the cross-faculty aspects of teaching and learning in teacher training (see QM cycle for teaching degree programmes; blue QM cycle).
The general university quality cycle and the cross-faculty quality cycle for teacher training degree programmes are interlinked. Cross-faculty QM aspects are identified and discussed in the cross-faculty quality cycle for teaching-related degree programmes; this results in recommendations that are made via the Teaching Council as the central body (or every 4-5 years via the cross-faculty development meeting) and flow back into the general university quality cycle. In accordance with the faculty's responsibility for teaching, these recommendations are to be discussed in the (sub-)programme conferences of the teaching-related subjects and, if necessary, concretised and monitored with measures.
