Integration of the teacher training-specific quality management system into the university’s quality assurance framework

To ensure the regular review of degree programmes as part of the faculty’s quality management system, quality management processes have been established both at the various structural levels of a degree programme and at the different levels of responsibility within the university; these processes are interlinked as part of a general university-wide quality cycle (see the University of Oldenburg’s Quality Management System for Studies and Teaching; the orange QM cycle).

Specifically for the quality assurance of cross-school aspects of study and teaching in teacher training, the University of Oldenburg (UOL) has developed an additional cross-school quality cycle for teacher training degree programmes (see Teacher Training QM Cycle; blue QM cycle).

The general university quality cycle and the cross-school quality cycle for teacher training degree programmes are interlinked. Within the cross-school quality cycle for teacher training degree programmes, cross-school QM aspects are identified and discussed; The outcome is a set of recommendations which are issued via the Teaching Council as the central body (or, every 4–5 years, via the cross-school development meeting) and fed back into the general university-wide quality cycle. In accordance with the faculties’ responsibility for teaching, these recommendations are to be discussed at the (sub-)programme conferences for teacher training subjects and, where necessary, implemented through specific measures and monitored.
