Friederike Bunten studied music, social sciences and maths at the University of Oldenburg from 2008 onwards. She completed her Bachelor's degree with a thesis on the Unna International Composers' Library as an institution of music-cultural memory. She then went on to study for a Master of Arts in Musicology in Oldenburg and a Master of Education in Music, Politics, Economics and Mathematics. She wrote her thesis on the depiction of women making music on historical picture postcards from the collection of the University of Osnabrück. Between 2011 and 2014, she was a tutor (lecture "Introduction to Musicology") and research assistant at the Institute of Music at the University of Oldenburg. From June 2015 to December 2016, she was a research assistant in the research project "Gender knowledge in and between disciplines: Critique, transformation and 'dissident participation' in (academic) knowledge production" at the Centre for Women's and Gender Studies at the University of Oldenburg in cooperation with the University of Braunschweig.
