About me

I am an early career postdoctoral researcher specialising in the chemical ecology of corals. Trained as a chemist, my research focuses on the unseen world of coral reef ecosystems, and I study the chemical and microbial interactions between benthic organisms. I use state-of-the-art omics methods, including metabolomics and metabarcoding, to understand the role of organisms and their interactions in coral reef ecosystems.

Research topics

Coral ecotoxicology

Since October 2025, I have been a postdoctoral researcher in the Environmental Biochemistry Group at the Institute of Chemistry and Biology of the Marine Environment (ICBM). I am currently working on coral ecotoxicology and in particular developing standardised methods for acute and chronic tests on adult corals and coral larvae. As part of the project I am using LC-MS to analyse and quantify the chemicals used in these bioassays.

Chemical and microbial players in the settlement of coral larvae

As part of my PhD research, I investigated the chemical and microbial interactions between benthic organisms in coral reef ecosystems and how these may affect the early life stages of corals. I have conducted field and laboratory studies to understand the effects of i) benthic cyanobacterial mats on coral larval settlement, ii) benthic organisms on coral larval behaviour and survival, and iii) benthic organisms on the early development of the coral recruits microbiome. I used metabolomics and metabarcoding to identify the chemical and microbial players of coral recruitment.
