Shellac disc collection with light music
The University Library has a collection of around 4,500 shellac discs, which were acquired from private collections in the 1980s. It comprises almost the entire German pop production of the 1950s. The shellac record is a precursor to the vinyl record.
Interview with Paul Tillmann Haas, curator of the BIS collections
The curator of the Library and Information Centre's collection, Paul Tillmann Haas, talks about the origin of the shellac plates that are part of the Oldenburg University Library's inventory.
The interview was conducted as part of the exhibition "How We Know - Interfaces between Research and Everyday Life". Students from the Museum and Exhibition Master's degree programme showed the exhibition at The Smart House Oldenburg from 11 May 2019 to 31 May 2019.
