Guidelines Presentations
Guidelines for presentations in advanced seminars, introductory seminars and research seminars
The presentation of one's own work is an essential part of science. For this reason, great importance is attached to the design of a presentation in the seminars at the department. It is included in the overall grade for both final theses and seminar papers.
Slides
The department provides a template for designing the slides.
When designing the slides, please remember what was taught in the introductory seminar! Here are a few mistakes that occur again and again.
- Font too small ("I could read it well on my monitor.").
- Unrecognisable illustrations, too little contrast for a projection
- Too many slides for the time frame and too much text
Use keywords instead of formulated text passages on the slides. Make all slides self-explanatory.
A picture says more than a thousand words....
Make use of the space. Everything should be legible from a distance.
Adopted graphics etc. should be labelled in the style: "after Hahn, 2012" (Helvetica/Arial, italics, 10 points at the bottom of the slide).
Structure
The specified time for the presentation should not be exceeded under any circumstances. Time frames are specified in the course or in the instructions for final theses.
Guide the audience through your presentation. Give it structure. Focus on the question, method and result.
