Abstract:

Even at school-entry, heterogeneity of academic performance induces considerable demands on classroom organization. Preventive lessons require identification of individual capabilities and the use of effective and easily implementable measures. Everyday material holds considerable promise in this regard. In a controlled single-case study (ABAC) 14 first graders with numeracy difficulties received support using selected tiptoi®-material. The results indicate a profitable use for lesson- integrated support. Particularly, the independent use shows immediate effectiveness for seven children and overall effectiveness for further children of the study group. The implementation in education and potentials for supporting children at risk of developing mathematical learning difficulties are discussed.
