IT-for-Green
EU and state of Lower Saxony support ERDF project IT-for-Green (environmental, energy and resource management with BUIS 2.0)
IT-for-Green aims to use information processing to make companies and their processes (more) environmentally friendly. This requires special corporate environmental information systems (BUIS). Currently available systems only implement the requirement for legally compliant environmental behaviour. These systems therefore fall far short of the possibilities offered by IT.
BUIS of the next generation (BUIS 2.0) must also have a much more strategic character and be able to offer decision-makers in the company direct support for action.
In order to drive forward research in this area, the IT-for-Green project is being funded over a period of 3.5 years with a volume of around 2.1 million euros from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) in the Innovation Networks funding line.
The two main tasks are the expansion of the ertemis research and transfer network (www.ertemis.eu), which brings together innovative experts from science and industry, and the development of BUIS 2.0. To demonstrate the performance of BUIS 2.0, three interlocking modules are being implemented, which map the entire product life cycle from the input side (energy efficiency measurement of the ICT used), the transformation (production/logistics and sustainable product development) to the output side (corporate communication and sustainability reporting).
The core team - headed by Prof Dr Jorge Marx Gómez - consists of the universities of Oldenburg, Osnabrück, Göttingen and the associated partner Lüneburg as well as the companies SAP AG, CeWe Color AG & Co OHG, Hellmann Worldwide Logistics GmbH & Co KG, erecon AG, Nordwest-Informationssysteme GmbH & Co KG and the municipality of Spiekeroog. In addition, over 30 companies are contributing their practical experience to the project.
In co-operation with ecco GmbH, the project was presented at CeBIT from 1 March to 5 March 2011 in Hall 9, Stand B24.
