We are pleased to announce the publication of our new paper "Requirements for a Metadata Scheme to Enable FAIR Energy Research Software". In this work, Stephan Ferenz and Astrid Nieße together with Oliver Werth from OFFIS investigated the needs of energy researchers with regard to metadata for Energy Research Software (ERS).
ERS plays a significant role in energy research, supporting visualization, simulation, and analysis. To enhance its efficiency, metadata are crucial for better findability, accessibility, interoperability, and reusability (FAIR) of research software. However, current approaches to metadata for ERS have multiple limitations, such as not being based on a systematic approach to include the diverse requirements of energy researchers.
Our study showed that additional metadata elements for ERS are required, such as information on the community or support options. Domain-specific metadata are also necessary, such as information on the time and geographical scope of an ERS. Based on these findings, we developed a domain model that lays the foundation for creating a metadata scheme for ERS.
The paper is now available online and can be accessed at: eceasst.org/index.php/eceasst/article/view/2594
We hope that this work contributes to the improvement of metadata management for ERS and supports the efficiency of energy research.
