Sessions

I. Function and Diversity

Structural and functional diversity are key features of marine microbial communities. They reflect adaptations to environmental conditions, controlling variables and biotic interactions. In this session we welcome contributions addressing questions in this context on the level of communities and pure and mixed culture model systems.

II Chemistry and Physiology

Microbes are the key players in the decomposition, modification and synthesis of chemical compounds and in cycling of matter in marine ecosystems. Often they act in concert with other microbial partners and carry out chemical cross-talk performing unique physiological reactions. In this session we welcome contributions addressing physiological issues and the natural product chemistry of individual mono- and mixed cultures.

III Viruses and Systems Biology

Viruses and phages are important players in structuring marine microbial communities due to their distinct host ranges, varying infection modes and inducing resistance in hosts. Systems Biology and Ecology aim at modelling growth and metabolic features of microbes in pure cultures and complex microbial communities. In this combined session we welcome contributions addressing question of marine phage ecology as well as Systems Biology and Ecology.
