A feast for King Gugubo (2018)

Children's musical in the co-operative Oldenburg version

Piece info

Gugubo the Misfortunate from the merry tribe of the "Gugu" is a special Stone Age king. There is to be a big party for his birthday, to which the giant Matze and his wife Grete set off. On their way, they meet some strange creatures such as the frightening little Knörfe, the word inventor Wotz and the wondrous Tschugg tribe. The two miserable Stone Age princes Grumpf Grimmich and Meck Miesepit threaten to ruin the big party, but at the last minute things come to a happy end.

Humour and lightness are the key ingredients in this children's musical of a different kind, which relies above all on the power and possibilities of singing and speaking voices. In addition to the approximately 80 pupils, the twelve-strong student "Gugubo a cappella band" will also sing and provide musical support and enrichment for the children.

The Institute of Music at Carl von Ossietzky University has teamed up with IGS Kreyenbrück, IGS Flötenteich, Hermann Ehlers Primary School and Heiligengeisttor Primary School to jointly develop and realise this project.

The production team was awarded the City of Oldenburg's Cultural Education Award in the "schoOL'n'art" category at the beginning of 2018.
