Kaunzner

Kaunzner, Viktoria

Statement

"Viktoria Elisabeth Kaunzner is a living orchestra, violin soloist, composer and director - at the highest level". (Ivry Gitlis)

Credo

My vital music abstractly reflects the world as a synaesthetic integral of human sensations. The principle of my compositional process is the law of conservation of energy, which I explain as follows: Recorded energy (= daily impressions: Sounds, voices, smells, colours, movements, touches, food, etc.) - are metamorphosed after an incubation period into released energy to form a compositional cosmos or spontaneously into an improvisation. Following this concept, I want to reflect the spirit of the times in an original way with the aesthetic demand of musical beauty. My artistic vision could be described as "futuristic naturalism senza artificial intelligence". As a European pioneer in South Korea, I have an unusual spectrum of expression thanks to various kaleidoscopic musical influences and I like to be inspired by the traditional instruments (gugak) there. I find the subtle melismatic nuances within the melodic minimalist progression, onomatopoeia and the energetic, austere rhythm of this exotic East Asian musical language particularly mesmerising. Perhaps this is why the critics say that "she makes her shifting between cultures her theme" (NMZ). As a violin soloist and composer, it is important to me to tell my own sound stories and to revitalise the old tradition of interpreter-composers - walking along the New Silk Road, from East to West.
