Short biography

Corina Kiss was born in Romania in 1965. She studied music education and music theory with Prof. Victor Jiuleanu, musicology with Porf. Gheorghe Firca, counterpoint with Prof. Teodor Tutuianu, composition and harmony with Prof. Sorin Lerescu at the University of Music Bucharest and a year of journalism (1993-1994) at the University of Brasov. Since 2009 she has been writing articles for the magazine "Die Musiknachrichten" (Acutualitatea Muzicala) in Bucharest, for the series book "Musik" (Muzica) at the West University of Timisoara and since 2013 she has been an editor for the magazine of the Städtischer Musikverein Düsseldorf and NMZ. She specialises in contemporary composers. She also regularly takes part in symposia and congresses in Europe.

After various activities as a concert pianist and repetiteur for ballet, Corina Kiss focussed on aesthetic interpretations for piano and completed her doctorate in 2009 with a thesis on stylistic interpretation in works by Hans Werner Henze at the University of Music Bucharest. She has been a member of GEMA since 2007. She has worked for many years as a lecturer at the WBZ (further education centre) in Düsseldorf and Cologne. She teaches theory and piano.

 

Her compositional work is primarily connected with traditional music from Romania. She became internationally known with the performance of her piano works for six hands (published by Helm & Bayonov).
