As part of the ‘Future Trends in Education’ research project, a research network comprising Leuphana University of Lüneburg, the University of Oldenburg and the University of Osnabrück is investigating processes of change and transformation in schools in Lower Saxony. The project focuses on education for democracy and education for sustainable development.
The research project will run from 2026 to 2029 and adopts a mixed-methods approach. On the one hand, core data will be collected once a year using standardised survey instruments. Secondly, module data will be collected in the Creative Units at the respective universities through, for example, interviews, observations or group discussions.
At the University of Oldenburg, the Creative Unit D/E focuses on relationships with the social environment. Since August 2026, Jana Kienbaum, a PhD student working under Prof. Dr Karsten Speck, has been joining the Future.Ed team in Oldenburg. Her focus will be on working with parents.
