Workshop I: Co-operation between youth welfare services and schools in all-day education: synergy effects
Anja von Bülow, Kindertagesstätten und Beratungsverband (KIB) e.V.
In recent years, more and more all-day school formats have been established in Lower Saxony. Oldenburg's all-day schools are characterised by co-operation between the school and a youth welfare organisation. In joint working processes, concepts are developed that aim to create spaces for education, upbringing and care for children from a wide range of backgrounds. The workshop will focus on the experiences of KIB as a large youth welfare organisation in the city of Oldenburg in its co-operation with primary schools. What exactly do co-operation formats look like? What services do the stakeholders involved provide? What requirements does co-operation between the different professional groups entail? And how can the professional networking of youth welfare services and schools contribute to supporting inclusion in schools? In the workshop, these questions and the answers will form the basis of a joint discussion with an experienced youth welfare organisation in Oldenburg.
Workshop II: "School social work and school inclusion"
Jutta Anton, C.v.O. University of Oldenburg
What support can school social work offer to support the school's inclusion mission? In this workshop, the core services and goals of school social work are presented and related to the school's inclusion mandate with the help of practical examples. Here it is possible to gain precise knowledge of what constitutes school social work and what concrete work contexts look like. With a view to the current debate, aspects of multi-professional co-operation, connectivity and school development will be discussed.
Based on several cases, participants will gain insights into the practice of school social work and will be able to discuss opportunities and stumbling blocks with regard to support services in an inclusive school context.
Workshop III: "Individual case support in cooperation with the General Social Service (ASD)"
Olaf Meyer-Helfers
The centre of the workshop is a model project as an exemplary example of the dovetailing of individual case support with schools in the context of school inclusion.
With the introduction of inclusive schooling in Lower Saxony, youth welfare services have seen a massive increase in the number of school support services to be authorised. Under certain circumstances, there may be several inclusion assistants in one class. This initial situation led to the consideration of further developing existing co-operation projects between youth welfare services and special schools and enabling a different way of dealing with children in individual cases.
The aim is to move away from purely individual support for one child towards joint work with the whole class. This should improve the behaviour of all children in this class community and ideally make individual support superfluous. A corresponding model project was developed in close cooperation with the mobile service of the Heinz Neukäter School (a public special school for emotional and social development) and has been implemented since autumn 2015. It aims to bring together socio-educational specialists from youth welfare services and the school and to provide targeted support in a community of responsibility to increase the social participation of children in need in the classroom. A wide variety of methods (e.g. targeted teacher training, social training, class councils and project work, as well as school support in phases) are used to increase the sense of belonging in the classroom and increase social acceptance and understanding for one another. The aim is to increase acceptance of behavioural originality and reduce the threat of stigmatisation through constant individual educational support.
The workshop presents the model project and offers the opportunity for detailed case studies and joint discussion of the approach.
