Eye-controlled operation
Eye-controlled operation
Design and implementation of a camera-based, eye-controlled input option for graphical user interfaces
Background
Whether in intensive care or at the dentist: there are many situations in which
a person is either physically incapable of using standard input methods such as a keyboard or mouse
or
it would be inappropriate to do so. In such
situations, the use of Computing Science systems such as
web browsers, video or music programmes
usually has to be dispensed with. The use of such systems would be pleasant for the patient, especially in these
situations.
Job description
The aim of the work is to design and prototypically implement a system
that allows a programme equipped with a
graphical user interface to be operated using the eyes at
. A camera or similar should be used for this purpose. A camera or similar should be used, which interprets the
eye movements accordingly and triggers the actions of the
application. The resulting system should
be as "lean" as possible, i.e. be able to manage with as few computing resources as possible
and be able to adapt easily and quickly to a new
user. In addition, care should be taken to manage without
the use of commercial, cost-intensive libraries
. The resulting prototype should be tested - possibly in the
practical environment (contacts are available) - and evaluated.
