Call for Papers:
"Digitalisation and information systems of sustainability reporting - How institutions use ICT and software tools to improve communication and sustainability performance"
Workshop/Special Track: Computing Science 2015, 45th Annual Conference of the GI: "Informatics, Energy and Environment", BTU Cottbus, Mon. 28.09.-Fri. 2.10.2015
Goal and overview
The aim of the workshop is to examine digitalisation and the use of information systems as a challenge, driver and success factor for sustainability reporting by companies, universities and other reporting stakeholders and to offer the various parties involved in sustainability reporting substantial orientation and robust recommendations for action in order to exploit the resulting design opportunities.
The focal points are grouped around three main content strands:
- Highlighting the advantages, strengths, support potential and new design opportunities that modern ICT and information systems help reporting stakeholders to implement their sustainability reporting strategies,
- Design information systems and implement specific software tools to support sustainability reporting,
- Drive developments away from a purely paper-based and standardised approach to a forward-looking, ICT-based approach.
The contributions from the workshop are intended to build a bridge between the management-driven area of sustainability reporting on the one hand and the ICT-driven area of information systems, ICT solutions and software tools on the other. Although the research strands in both areas are still largely separate, advances in ICT open up a wealth of unique opportunities that are worth exploiting for sustainability reporting - and ultimately in the service of the guiding principle of sustainability.
Themes
The workshop organisers and programme committee encourage submissions from scientific research, consulting, reporting institutions and report users from various industries. Exemplary topics:
- The role of information systems in the development and use of sustainability reporting strategies;
- Innovative ICT applications in sustainability reporting, e.g. the use of markup languages such as XBRL;
- Information systems, sustainability reporting and organisational transformation and human resources;
- ICT support for the implementation of globally accepted structural guidelines in sustainability reporting;
- Use of ICT, software tools and reporting wizards to improve communication processes, e.g. moving away from a self-contained to a quasi-public approach with stakeholder participation;
- Effectiveness of information systems and performance of software tools to support sustainability reporting;
- Integration of sustainability reporting into corporate information systems;
- Assessing the effectiveness of ICT to support companies in monitoring their sustainability performance;
- Challenges in the quality control of sustainability reports;
- Integration of sustainability reporting into value chains and/or corporate networks;
- Use and application of Web 2.0 functionalities to improve sustainability communication;
- Improved credibility, transparency, accountability, trustworthiness, interactivity and target group-orientation;
Contributions should emphasise the importance of ICT and software tools as well as research and practice implications for sustainability reporting.
