Automated Workflow

Based on fundamental flow simulations automatic processes can be designed. As an example, the generation of lift and drag polars shall be discussed: A series of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulations of a specific airfoil, each with a constant angle of attack, can provide these characteristic polars.

With higher angles of attack though, the flow around the airfoil will change drastically, wherefore up to now no economic general approach for numerical investigations of airfoils could be defined.

Conclusively, it is a challenge to integrate different simulation approaches into one process. Futhermore, even more complex flow cases, as for instance under turbulent inflow, can be included into the process.

Finally, lift and drag polars can be transferred towards wind industry tools, like Blade-Element Momentum (BEM) codes. This procedure is also part of the entire automated process.
