General remarks

One is obliged to wear an FFP2 face mask in all public transports around Oldenburg (the usual medical face mask is not sufficient).

All information on this page is inofficial, no responsibility is taken for the correctness. Please consult the official webpages for the official information (mostly in German).

Arrival at the Bremen Airport

In front of the airport there is a tramway station. At the station there is a ticket vending machine: you need the ticket „Preisstufe / Price level F” (9,10 €) which covers the whole journey to Oldenburg (valid for the tramway in Bremen, regional trains between Bremen and Oldenburg as well as for the buses in Oldenburg). Attention: the ticket must be validated before you enter the tramway (there is a validator at the tramway station). Learn more abour regional transport around Bremen and Oldenburg at https://www.vbn.de (note that the tickets can also be bought online: https://www.vbn.de/en/tickets/ticket-offer).

Take the tramway and go to the central station of Bremen (Hauptbahnhof), it takes ca. 15 minutes. From there, take a train to „Oldenburg (Oldb)”. With the ticket „F” you may use all regional (RE, RB, NWB, IC) trains but not the ICE-trains (note for Germans: IC-trains between Bremen and Oldenburg are considered as regional trains due to a special local agreement). During the day there are usually two regional trains per hour, and the trip to Oldenburg takes 30-40 minutes. Check the timetable at https://www.bahn.com/en (type: from „Bremen Hbf” to „Oldenburg (Oldb) Hbf”).

After you arrive to Oldenburg, in most cases you can simply walk to your hotel (the hotels Sprenz, B&B, qpartments are within 700 m from the train station). If you decide to take the bus: all buses in Oldenburg stop at the central bus station, which is just on the north side of the central train station. For more information about the buses in Oldenburg please consult the official webpage of the bus company VWG (in German only): https://www.vwg.de//Fahrplan-Netzplaene-Tag-und-Nacht.html

You may use the compact map of the city center prepared by the organizers: MAP (the map background is from Google Maps).

Going to the university by bus

You can go to the university by bus. If you are going to take the bus during the whole week, you can buy the weekly ticket „7-TageTicket” (19,40 € ; for comparison: the single ticket costs 2,55 €). It is better to buy it on your arrival at the ticket vending machines „VWG”. The single tickets can be bought from the bus driver (cash only).

Most likely you will be not very far from the bus stop „Lappan” or „Hauptbahnhof Süd”: go there and take:

  • (most standard option) the bus 306 to „University Campus Wechloy” (<15 minutes), get off at the last stop, then walk to the conference building W32 (ca. 300m): you need to go through the main building,
  • or the bus 310 or 350 till the stop „Pophankeweg” (<15 minutes), then walk to the conference building W32 (ca. 600 m).

Check the bus timetables https://www.vwg.de//Fahrplan-Linienplaene-und-Bussteige.html at and the bus map at https://www.vwg.de//Fahrplan-Netzplaene-Tag-und-Nacht.html

Alternative ways to go to the university

  • If you arrive by car: the precise address of the conference building W32 is Küpkersweg 50, 26129 Oldenburg. There is a parking behind the building.
  • You may try one of the e-scooter sharings (TIER or Lime or Bolt), the e-roller sharing (EWE Go) or the bicycle sharing (Oli-Bike) as well as more traditional bicycle rentals (most hotels have bicycles to rent: ask them).
