Digital formats in teacher training - conception and evaluation of a digital training concept using the example of Economics Education

Abstract

In an education system that is constituted by complex cause, condition and effect structures, the professional competence of teachers is considered a central influencing factor on the quality of teaching and student performance.[1] In addition, an agile and competent approach to the challenges and changes of today's society, which is characterised by numerous transformation processes (above all digitalisation), is of great importance for the establishment of contemporary teaching-learning processes. Digitality offers numerous didactic and methodological opportunities for the professionalisation and further development of teaching skills and opens up the potential for the cross-location design of innovative and effective formats for the professionalisation of teachers.

To date, current digital training and further education concepts for teachers in Germany have been limited to selective and non-binding short-term measures, which are mainly concretised in the provision of content and simple blended learning concepts and, from a research perspective, are only suitable for the successful professionalisation of teachers to a limited extent. In view of the growing proportion of lateral entrants and non-specialist teachers as well as a serious training deficit - especially in the teaching profession of "economics" - the need for further and continuing training is constantly increasing.

Against this background, a transferable digital further education and training concept for teacher training is to be developed and evaluated using the example of a qualification system in the subject of Economics Education. At the end of the doctoral project, there will be findings on theoretically sound and practice-proven criteria for the design of digital training programmes in the third phase of teacher training. The aim is to achieve an interdisciplinary transfer of the findings while at the same time developing a digital subject concept for general university didactics.
