Everyday life

Busan is the second largest city in South Korea after Seoul and is located in the south-eastern part of the country. As it is also an important harbour city, it plays a crucial role in South Korea's international trade. The harbour of Busan, also known as Busan Port, is one of the largest ports in East Asia.

Busan has a rich cultural scene and a fascinating history. Sights such as the Gamcheon Cultural Site, a colourful district with art installations, and the Beomeosa Temple, one of the most important Buddhist temples in South Korea, are popular places to visit. Busan is home to several natural parks, including Taejongdae Park, which is famous for its cliffs and picturesque sea views.

Using public transport such as subways and buses is relatively affordable in Busan. A monthly transport ticket could cost around 70,000 KRW (approx. 50 EUR, as of 01/2024). If you own a car, the cost of petrol and parking must also be taken into account. On average, monthly food costs for one person can be between 300,000 KRW and 500,000 KRW (200-300 EUR, as of 01/2024). There is on-campus housing for exchange students, which costs between 1,200 and 1,500 EUR per semester (depending on the type of room).
