Measures
Protection, maintenance and development measures
Measures planned for the species support programmes include Adaptation of ditch maintenance to the life cycles and ecological requirements of the target species (intensity, timing and interval as well as equipment used). Reintroduction of crab claw
Plants of the crab claw(Stratiotes aloides) are to be colonised in potentially suitable bodies of water, thus creating new habitats for the green mosaic dragonfly(Aeshna viridis). The maintenance of these bodies of water should also be adapted to the ecological requirements of the species. Removal of riparian shrubs
In order to reduce the negative impact of shading caused by shrubs on the populations of the helmeted damselfly and the common damselfly(Coenagrion mercuriale and C. ornatum), the removal or pruning of individual shrubs or groups of shrubs that shade the watercourse is planned in selected sections of the ditch. Renaturalisation/restoration of ditches as migration corridors or even (temporary or permanent) breeding habitats
In order to connect dragonfly populations, it is desirable to develop stepping stones and corridors between the areas and thus enable an exchange of individuals. Sections of ditch that border on current populations and have as even a water flow as possible are ideal for this purpose. In addition to the development and optimisation of characteristic vegetation and water morphology, possible measures include adapted ditch maintenance, the removal of heavily developed siltation vegetation and silt deposits as well as pruning or removal of woody plants.
